Recently, the Virginia Military Institute began a project that relocated the post flagpoles to either side of the George C. Marshall statue in front of the barracks.
This is where the flagpoles used to be. You can see the Marshall statue to the left of the U.S. flag.
First, the Marshall statue was safely wrapped and moved from its pedestal for the during of the construction project. (Kelly Nye photo)
The flagpoles were removed.
It looked strange with out statue or flagpoles.

The plaza that is built around the statue is beautiful.
