Editorial Note on Third Army Plans
Marshall’s brief association with General Allen’s Eighth Corps ended in January, 1919. On the fifth he received orders to report for duty with the Operations Section at General Headquarters, which he did on the fifteenth. Marshall was immediately assigned to collect information and to prepare plans for marching the American Third Army into Germany in the event the peace negotiations in Paris failed.
